IRCGM and the MRC Thérèse-De Blainville  Together with 211 !

Ste-Thérèse, October 6 2017 — The Information and Referral Centre of Greater Montréal (IRCGM) is very proud to make even more accessible its info-referral services to citizens of the  Blainville, Boisbriand, Bois-des-Fillion, Lorraine, Rosemère, Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines and Sainte-Thérèse, who are part of the MRC de Thérèse-De Blainville, thanks to the soon to be implemented 211 service. Starting today, the website component of the 211 service, on ,  is already operational with the launch of the on-line social and community resources on the territory of the MRC and the ones who serves them. « And in December, when dialing 2-1-1, residents of the MRC residents will be able to communicate easily with the Info-Referral counsellors, between 8 : 00 a.m. and 6: 00 p.m, every day, and on statutory holidays,  in order to obtain information of social and community resources meeting their social needs.  It’s a service that changes the lives of people, helping them to get easily information on resources, for them and their loved ones. By improving their living conditions, positive impacts reverberates on the whole community  », explained Mrs  Pierrette Gagné, Executve director of IRCGM at the press conference launching the 211 service in, held in Ste-Thérèse, in the presence of the MRC mayors, the prefect of the MRC, Mr. Richard Perreault, and many representatives of the social and community organizations.

The 211 service is also a most interesting tool for municipal decision-makers, thanks to the social analysis done on the basis of the statistics on the requests received, they can better understand the met needs and un-met needs in all their respective cities.

The 211 service was established in the Grearer Montréal region, firstly in Laval, in October 2016, followed by the launch of the on line  website,, of social and community resources of the agglomeration of Montréal , in December of 2016, and the MRC De L'Assomption in April 2017. 

In Québec,  211 is already implemented in the Capitale-Nationale area, in the Chaudière-Appalaches et in th MRC de Haute-Yamaska. 

It may be recalled that InformCanada, the Canadian coalition of information and referral centres, together with Centraide/United Way Canada, have been granted the authorization to reserve the 211phone number for Canadian community information and referral centres by the CRTC in 2001. InformCanada and United Way have since been responsible for granting the 211 license as well as for establishing quality standards.

The Information and Referral Centre of Greater Montréal celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2016. It offers bilingual social and community information and referral services to citizens and counsellors of Greater Montréal by phone, online and through printed directories. It also manages the 211 service, the Referral Helpline for Seniors as well as two specialized support, information and referral phone lines offering addiction-related assistance across Québec; Drugs : Help and Referral and Gambling : Help and Referral. The TeleCounselling program for compulsive gamblers is one more of its projects.
