IRCGM Publishes its 8th Edition of the Directory of Food Resources for Low Income People of Greater Montréal

Montréal, June 8, 2017 — “Poverty is not a figure of mind or an abstract concept. This is evidenced by the important number of calls for food aid referrals from families, seniors or single people of all ages our Info-Referral service gets each year. This is why we have reissued this directory, which is of great service for citizens, but also for social counsellors and social organizations”, indicated Pierrette Gagné, Executive Director of the Information and Referral Centre of Greater Montréal (IRCGM).

Like in previous editions, it contains all the useful information and a detailed description of the services, which are classified with the help of subchapters and of indexes. “Furthermore, the Directory contains more than 400 organizations that offer food help to low income people of the Greater Montréal territory. We also need to mention a novelty in this edition, which is information capsules opening each chapter with clarifications regarding complementary tools" explained Mrs. Brigitte Gagnon-Boudreau, coordinator for Resources and Edition, at IRCGM.

The design has been completely reviewed to make it more attractive, but also to make it more practical. In addition to selecting a new image, the size has been modified and the French and English editions are now separated, offering an easier format for transportation and manipulation. In the 2017 edition, for the first time in its history, the Directory will be available in PDF format in order to give a better access to resources.

The Information Centre of Reference of Greater Montréal celebrates its 60th anniversary this year. It offers bilingual information and referral services by phone, on-line and by printed directories to citizens and social field counsellors of the Greater Montreal. It manages the 211 service, the Referral Helpline for Seniors and two support, information and referral helplines, Drugs: Help and Referral and Gambling: Help and Referral and a program for compulsive gamblers, TeleCounselling.
