Service Canada - Employment Insurance caregiving benefits
Benefit for caregivers who must take time off work to provide care or support to a seriously ill or injured person, or to someone who needs end-of-life care.
Types of benefits
- Benefit for caregivers of children (up to 35 weeks).
- Adult Caregiver Benefit (up to 15 weeks).
- Compassionate Care Benefit for caregivers of persons of any age requiring end-of-life care (up to 26 weeks).

Eligibility
persons who are family members (or considered to be family members) who provide care or support to a seriously ill or injured loved one or who require end-of-life care that meet the following eligibility conditions: normal weekly earnings have decreased by more than 40% for at least one week because they must be absent from work to provide care or support to a loved one and who have accumulated at least 600 hours of insurable employment in the 52 weeks preceding the start of the claim or since the start of the last claim
Details on the service offering
You can receive benefits for 52 weeks following the date on which the person was determined by a physician or nurse practitioner to be gravely ill, injured or in need of end-of-life care.
